LiveWire S2 Alpinista: an electric motorcycle for the city and long-distance rides

Release date: January 15, 2025 — the model was officially launched and immediately arrived at dealerships in North America and Europe.

In early 2025, LiveWire—a company owned by Harley-Davidson —unveiled the S2 Alpinista, an electric road motorcycle designed for those who need more than just a city bike and want the capability to ride further afield.

The Alpinista is the third model based on the LiveWire S2 platform. The manufacturer positions it as a "sport standard"—a middle ground between a sports bike, an urban commuter, and a machine suited for longer rides.

The motorcycle is equipped with a 10.5 kWh battery. According to LiveWire's testing methodology, it has a range of up to 120 miles (approximately 193 km) in city riding. The combined range is approximately 89 miles, while the range at a constant speed of 55 mph is approximately 71 miles.

The electric motor produces 84 hp (63 kW) and 194 lb-ft of torque, which is approximately 263 Nm. The motorcycle can accelerate to 60 mph in about 3 seconds, and its top speed reaches 99 mph , or around 159 km/h.

However, the Alpinista cannot be described as a lightweight motorcycle: it weighs around 197 kg. On the other hand, its relatively low seat height makes the model more comfortable for everyday riding.

The motorcycle supports two types of charging. A full charge from a standard household outlet takes about 8.4 hours. Using a Level 2 charging station, charging from 20% to 80% takes approximately 78 minutes .

LiveWire has also equipped the S2 Alpinista with modern electronics. It features a Bosch six-axis inertial measurement unit, lean-sensitive ABS and traction control, multiple riding modes, regenerative braking, and over-the-air software updates.

A key advantage of the model is that it no longer needs to be viewed as an experiment. At the time of its launch, the S2 Alpinista actually went on sale in North America and Europe.

For the electric motorcycle market, this model is notable for signaling a shift toward more conventional road-going machines. It is neither a small urban electric scooter nor an experimental prototype, but a full-fledged motorcycle with performance characteristics comparable to powerful gasoline-powered models.
