Decathlon has updated the Rockrider E-ACTV 900: an e-bike with an automatic transmission for city and country riding.

Decathlon has introduced a new version of the Rockrider E-ACTV 900 electric hybrid bike, which has launched in European markets, including the Netherlands, France, and Germany. The new model features a "Brown Quartz" color scheme while retaining the key technical specifications of the previous version.

The main feature of the E-ACTV 900 lies not so much in its updated design as in the Owuru drive system it employs. The bike is equipped with a central automatic motor featuring a continuously variable transmission (CVT), eliminating the need for traditional manual gear shifting.

Automatic transmission instead of conventional gear shifting

The Owuru system uses two mid-drive motors and a continuously variable transmission (CVT). Electronics monitor speed and pedaling effort, while the system automatically selects the operating mode based on the situation.

The motor has a rated power of 250 W, a peak power of up to 600 W, and a maximum torque of 65 Nm. The CVT gear ratio is 310%, and the pedaling cadence can be adjusted within the range of 40 to 90 revolutions per minute.

For the average user, this means simpler operation: instead of constantly selecting the right gear, the bike automatically adjusts the drivetrain's performance.

Up to 130 kilometers on a single charge

The E-ACTV 900 is equipped with a 694 Wh battery featuring Samsung SDI cells. According to Decathlon, the range can reach up to 130 km, depending on the assistance mode and riding conditions.

The manufacturer provides four support modes:
Eco — minimal energy consumption and maximum range;
Tour — a balance between power and energy consumption;
Sport — for long ascents;
Turbo — maximum assistance from the electric motor.

However, the actual range depends on the weight of the cyclist and luggage, the terrain, wind, temperature, and the selected mode.

For city and country routes

The Rockrider E-ACTV 900 falls into the category of electric hybrid bikes. It is designed for use on asphalt, country roads, and easy trails.

The bicycle features a low-step frame (in the corresponding version), an adjustable handlebar, and a front suspension fork with 63 mm of travel. Hydraulic disc brakes are used for stopping.

The bike also supports connectivity with the Decathlon Mobility app, allowing you to track ride statistics and other data.

How does the E-ACTV 900 differ from more affordable models?

The E-ACTV lineup offers several options for different users. For instance, the E-ACTV 100 features a 250W Rockrider rear motor with 45 Nm of torque and a 356 Wh battery. Its claimed range reaches 70 km in Eco mode.

The E-ACTV 500 sits higher in the lineup. It features a Yamaha mid-drive motor with a peak torque of 55 Nm and a 504 Wh battery. The claimed range reaches 150 km in Eco mode.

The E-ACTV 900 focuses on automation: its Owuru system automatically adjusts the gearing and motor assistance, eliminating the need for the rider to constantly shift gears.

Model data is based on Decathlon's technical specifications. The range represents the maximum stated value and depends on operating conditions.

The main change is automation.

Thus, the new Rockrider E-ACTV 900 Brown Quartz version does not represent a completely new generation of the bike. The main change for the European market is the new color scheme, while the core technology remains the same.

It is the Owuru system with its automatic CVT transmission that makes the E-ACTV 900 an interesting option for everyday mobility. The bike aims to take on some of the effort usually exerted by the rider by automatically selecting the gear and level of assistance.

For the user, this means a simpler scenario: get on, select an assist mode, and ride without the distraction of constantly shifting gears.
