Google has officially launched a standalone Gemini desktop app for Windows 10 and Windows 11. The app is available for free with a basic set of features, while users can opt for a paid Gemini Advanced subscription to access the most powerful AI models and advanced tools.
A key convenience of the desktop version is the ability to quickly launch it from anywhere in the system using the Alt + Space hotkey combination. The application runs in a floating window over other programs, enabling interaction with the AI alongside your primary tasks—such as coding, editing documents, or browsing the web.
Gemini for Windows supports multimodal input: users can submit text prompts, engage in voice conversations, or upload files, documents, and images. The application can also analyze on-screen content, including open web pages and screenshots. Additionally, the service features deep integration with the Google ecosystem (Drive, Docs, Gmail, Maps, YouTube, Calendar) and includes Gemini Live, a voice mode for real-time interaction with the AI.
The new tool is designed to handle a wide range of productivity-related tasks. It enables users to quickly summarize long texts and emails, generate, translate, and debug code, create images, and search for up-to-date information via integration with Google Search.
