E-bikes with the Bosch Performance Line CX system

The Bosch Performance Line CX is not a specific bicycle model, but rather a central electric drive system used by various manufacturers. At its core are a motor located at the bottom bracket, a battery, sensors, and an electronic control unit. The system continuously gathers data on the rider's pedal pressure and cadence, as well as the bicycle's speed and acceleration. Based on this information, the motor adjusts the level of assistance in near real-time. Bosch employs torque sensors, cadence sensors, and inertial measurement units (IMUs ).

In the current Performance Line CX BDU384Y version, standard specifications include 85 Nm of torque, 600 W of peak power, and 340% assistance. A Bosch software update allows for increasing these figures to 100 Nm, 750 W, and 400% assistance, while an update to 120 Nm will be available for compatible systems in specific configurations starting in May 2026. The standard version provides assistance up to a maximum speed of 25 km/ h.

A key feature of the system is that the cyclist does not have to manually select the motor power for every climb. If the rider pedals harder or encounters a steep incline, the electronics increase the level of assistance; conversely, the support decreases when pedaling effort is reduced. Settings can be adjusted and the system updated via the Bosch eBike Flow app.

Thus, the Bosch Performance Line CX does not determine the appearance of the bicycle itself. Manufacturers independently select the frame, wheels, tires, brakes, and drivetrain.

That is why you can find city, touring, cargo, and full-fledged mountain e-bikes all powered by the same Bosch system.
