PURE x McLaren Special Edition: a Formula 1-inspired electric scooter

PURE Electric, in collaboration with McLaren, has unveiled a special version of its urban electric scooter: the PURE x McLaren Special Edition. This new model marks a continuation of the partnership between the two British brands and features a design in McLaren’s signature colors.

Sales of the model launched on July 4, 2024. The release date was confirmed by the specialized publication Hypebeast, which reported the global availability of the scooters in Papaya Orange and Black versions starting on that very day.

Pure Advance+ technology

The McLaren Special Edition is based on the Pure Advance+ platform. Its key feature is an unusual riding stance: the feet are placed on separate platforms, and the rider stands facing the direction of travel.

According to PURE, this configuration is designed to provide a more natural body position and enhanced control over the scooter. The proprietary Pure Control system is used to stabilize the steering.

Performance

At the time of its initial release, PURE claimed a peak power of 710 W and a range of up to 31 miles (approximately 50 km). The scooter featured 10-inch tires, IP65-rated water and dust protection, and a foldable design.

Particular attention has been paid to the design. The Papaya Orange version features McLaren’s heritage orange color, while the Matte Black model adopts a more understated racing style.

Connection to McLaren

The partnership between PURE and McLaren is not merely a matter of logo licensing. The company positioned the project as a fusion of PURE’s British engineering expertise and McLaren’s design heritage.

The partnership generates additional interest due to the connection between PURE founder Adam Norris and Formula 1: he is the father of McLaren driver Lando Norris.

What is truly interesting about it

The model's main advantage is not its top speed, but its control concept. PURE has moved away from the traditional electric scooter stance, opting instead for a body position that resembles riding a standard bicycle or moped.

This is complemented by large 10-inch wheels, a folding frame, and signature McLaren styling. The result is a premium urban vehicle for motorsport fans rather than an attempt to create an extreme electric scooter.

Conclusion

The PURE x McLaren Special Edition is a limited-edition designer version of the Pure Advance+, created through a collaboration between PURE Electric and McLaren. The model combines Pure’s distinctive forward-facing riding position and foldable design with McLaren’s racing-inspired styling.

The release date is July 4, 2024.

Updated on August 23, 2026. Although the model remains on sale today and appears in catalogs as a current McLaren Special Edition, its initial global release took place back in July 2024.
