Geely has unveiled AI technologies for SUVs: a digital chassis will control traction and vehicle settings.

On August 28, 2026, Geely Auto Group unveiled a new suite of technologies for electrified SUVs, combining a hybrid powertrain, a dedicated vehicle architecture, and the AI All-Terrain Digital Chassis—an intelligent digital chassis designed for driving across various types of terrain.

The new technology will debut on the Geely Zhanjian 700 SUV, which will be one of the first Geely vehicles to utilize this system.

AI will control thrust.

One of the system's key components is the AI All-Terrain Digital Chassis. According to Geely, the system analyzes driving conditions and coordinates power distribution, torque management, and vehicle settings based on the terrain.

It is paired with the Geely EM-T hybrid system featuring a three-motor all-wheel-drive setup. This system is designed for intelligent torque distribution between the wheels and performance on challenging surfaces.

Simply put, the idea is for the vehicle to automatically assist the driver in selecting the optimal powertrain and chassis settings when driving across various types of terrain.

New GTA architecture

Geely simultaneously unveiled the GTA (Geely Terrain Architecture), developed specifically for electrified SUVs.

Its design employs a combination of a unibody structure and an integrated frame. According to the manufacturer, this solution makes it possible to simultaneously ensure the rigidity required for off-road driving and preserve interior space.

Technologies for extreme conditions

Geely also demonstrated a range of systems designed for situations that might arise far from conventional roads.

For water-related emergencies, the company specifies an "emergency flotation and escape mode." It utilizes sonar and two small thrusters designed to help the vehicle maneuver in the water.

An in-cabin oxygen supply system is provided for high-altitude driving. The vehicle is also equipped with satellite connectivity, enabling the sending of messages and requests for assistance in areas without standard mobile network coverage.

The Zhanjian 700 has undergone large-scale trials.

Geely reports that the Zhanjian 700 development program involved 659 test vehicles and over 6.11 million kilometers of testing.

The testing covered over 80 real-world off-road scenarios and 7,933 checkpoints, including 433 additional requirements developed specifically for electrified off-road vehicles.

What this means for the average driver

The key feature of Geely's new technology is that AI is used not only in the vehicle's multimedia system.

The company is bringing artificial intelligence directly into vehicle dynamics control:

sensors → condition analysis → AI → power distribution → torque management → chassis adaptation.

This direction could represent the next stage in the evolution of intelligent vehicles, where electronics will not merely assist the driver with parking or lane-keeping but actively manage the vehicle's behavior on challenging road surfaces.

It is important to note, however, that the technologies presented by Geely currently constitute a manufacturer-developed system rather than proof of fully autonomous off-road driving. The driver remains responsible for controlling the vehicle.

Conclusion

On August 28, 2026, Geely unveiled the AI All-Terrain Digital Chassis, the GTA architecture, and the EM-T hybrid system, designed for a new generation of electrified SUVs.

The Geely Zhanjian 700 will be the first model to feature this system.

This is an interesting example of how AI is gradually moving beyond multimedia and driver assistance systems and beginning to be used directly in the control of traction, torque, and chassis settings.
